REHABILITATION PROGROMME IN NIGERIAN PRISON SERVICES: SALIENT ISSUES ON ITS EFFECTIVENESS

Abstract: 

The population of Nigerian’s prison lingers to breed at a percentage that is frightening.Thus the effective rehabilitation of the inmate and the role of social workers cannot be over emphasised, the salient issues against the rehabilitation will be examined in this paper Qualitative research design was adopted for the work. Data collected with the Interview Schedule for prison staffs and Interview Guide for selected group of people. This was administered to 10 respondents, which comprises both male and female in the community. The purpose of the study was to examine the challenges facing rehabilitation, in line with improved standards rehabilitating the inmates, sustained economically and prevent them against recidivism; to enhance good levels of correct ional rehabilitation competitiveness in the state, organization for increased productivity of the inmate. It is a common knowledge that every individual strife to be the best when receive the necessary or adequate empowerment. To these extents, such a person bears some responsibilities even if passively so as to be self -sufficient. The implication of this work is to contribute to a better rehabilitation programme for the inmate by informing the authority on their challenges face by inmates, prison staffs an d social worker in rehabilitation programme
